He’s been compared to David Bowie, Tony Stark, Ramona Flowers, Hawkeye, and Tank Girl! – but IRL, he’s Kieran Strange, a quirky and powerful young artist blending pop sensibilities, dynamic guitars, and high-energy live rock shows into his own brand of geeky British pop-punk. At the age of seventeen, he left his parents, family, and small English fishing village behind in order to chase his dream of making music; he travelled to Vancouver (Canada) where he now resides, writing and performing songs about resistance, relationships, and RPGs.
Standing firmly as a voice for the different and discarded, Kieran came out publicly as genderfluid in 2014 with the release of the Tear Down The Wall music video. After discovering more about his own gender identity struggles whilst working with the cast and crew of The Switch, the world’s first transgender sitcom, he finally decided to change his pronouns from “she” to “he” in the summer of 2016, when he publicly accepted his own “transgender” identity.
These days, he always makes sure he is open, outspoken, and passionate in his beliefs; some of the causes he fights to support include LGBTQ+/SAGA issues and rights, feminism, autism awareness, racial equality, refugee and immigrant rights, many forms of mental health and suicide awareness, and more.
Hot on the heels of his past releases – Adamantine Heart (2012) and Last Hero Standing (2015) – the bedheaded geek has toured multiple countries (including Canada, USA, UK, and Japan), and played hundreds of shows, conventions, and festivals. In the summer of 2016, Kieran joined forces with Dave Kitsberg – a Twitch streamer, tech nerd, and convention guest veteran of eleven years who has performed with the likes of Lemon Demon, the Spoony Bards, Random Gibberish, Time Crash, Arc Impulse, and even voice-acting sweetheart Caitlin Glass.
Together with drummer and YouTuber (and chicken wing enthusiast) Arnell Damasco (SixOneForte, Better Off Fred), Kieran and Dave are delving into the world of geek parody songs and covers, as well as writing fresh and original concept material influenced by V for Vendetta, Attack on Titan, Marvel, DC, Final Fantasy, Firefly, and more of their collaborative geeky inspirations. This cache of new music the trio are working tirelessly on is set to be released later in 2017 under the band name WE ARE THE CHAOS!
Prior to this, Kieran and his bandmates recently released a cosplay music video (shot in Detroit, MI at Youmacon 2015) to his original song INVINCIBLE in November 2016, and will soon be dropping their brand new Captain America: Civil War inspired single Legacy at San Japan X (San Antonio, TX on Labour Day Weekend)! Make sure you’ve picked your side and are ready to protect OR defend your legacy!
On top of all that, though, the past few months have been chaotic for Kieran on another front, as the multi-media artist has been swept up in the release of his the first full-length novel! It’s the first in an urban fantasy sci-fi series of four or five action-adventure novels with LGBTQ+ and political aspects, drawing inspiration from fandoms such as DC and Marvel comics and television, Sherlock, Supernatural, and more. The book, Black Tie by Kieran Strange, is now available on Amazon both in eBook and paperback form, and you can get it signed by Kieran himself at a convention near you!
At conventions, you can often find Kieran (and the band) flanked by some familiar faces you know from his team: Kit Watson, his long-time friend and co-manager; Wade Gawler, his British bro and the head of his street team; and Jinnie McManus, convention booking agent and cupcake baker extraordinaire. You can keep up with the whole team on their social media, or you can subscribe to Kieran’s mailing list so that you don’t miss out on any sneak peeks, pre-orders, or behind the scenes goodies!
